Designer Furniture for the Modern Office

For your consideration: designer desks from the not so distant past. Modular L shaped desks and shared surface areas helped make for the efficient office of the future. Modern work spaces today seem to continue this trend; slim, minimalist new tables replace the blocky desk while the attractive ergonomic designer chair supports extended working hours. In contemporary times, we see more office space available; employees more often work from home while coat racks and track lighting replace bulky plant life. Over the years, however, the values of 1960’s designer furniture remain alive and well today.

You can still find these relics online or from a furniture store if you wish to replicate this design from the ground floor. Be aware of your budget; the 1960’s Remington Rand style likely sells for modern prices.

Designer Chairs for the Modern Home

For disciples of designer chairs, it doesn’t get much more modern than Eero Saarinen's Womb Chair, true to organic forms and consideration for human comfort.  Saarinen’s International Style adapts from his work as professional sculptor and architect.  Not unlike Bertoia’s line of minimalist wire chairs,  the designer’s collaboration with Charles Eames produced designer furniture worthy of museum exhibition.  These gracefully curved chairs are therefore sure to serve your modern home as well.

Beware of recent imitations, however; the authentic item should have a plastic reinforced shell, polished steel frame, foam seating and wool blend fabric.  Choose only the best designer furniture for every room your home.

The Winner: Designer Furniture for the Living Room!

For the bachelor home, “manly” furnishings are the products of choice for the living and dining room. The dark oak table, the dining chair and leather sofa make first choice items for autumn.

Time to give those retro furnishings new life! Atomic age table and chair designs seem as modern today as in the past. Gather the neat-o tableware and accessories, too.

Designer Furniture Trend Report 2010: Part 2

Blocky, oversize designer furniture is not as popular today’s home as in the recent past. Modern, organized, eco friendly design means instead choosing a small, biodegradable wood chair and table for the living room. Neutral or laminate floor covering is top choice for autumn. Wood floors are the reigning classic, yet a European area rug works best for subdivided bedrooms and side spaces. Choose a pattern or texture in an interesting color to make a white room really come alive.

Keep accessories minimal or grouped together as a collection. A mirror or other statement piece belongs above a trendy Italian leather sofa or dining table. Display to create the illusion of height.

The Best Distressed Dresser

You’ve seen the rest distressed dresser, now get the best. You know that the greatest designer furniture are items you’ve designed yourself, so check out this stately modern bedroom piece. When trying a new design technique, our advice is to start with a reclaimed or low price offering like a stool or small chair from a good junk store. It’s not necessary to be a famous furniture designer but you will need to sand with the wood grain between varnished coats and use the right tools to give it that faux antique appearance.

Sanding corners can age the item while dents and scratches can offer a lived in look. Try it yourself and let us know your results!

Smart Designer Lighting?

Designer lighting like this in the age of energy saving incandescent bulbs seems counterproductive, but who can argue with this style? Modern and inexpensive, this product ads just the right compliment for your existing designer furniture.

The new furnishings present are made to accompany this lighting as a set. We’re not if this collection is room specific, however. Could be fine for the bedroom but seems a little too bright. Send us your suggestions-we’d like to feature the best replies.

Eco Designer Chair: A Tree Grows in the Living Room

Welcome to the future of the designer chair. This eco furniture is earthen made for maximum style and comfort. This summer's designer furniture is taking an environmentally friendly approach, so it’s best to have at least one green sofa or eco chair in your modern home. An eco furniture collection like this features a chair made of rounded gravel like the pebbles at most parks. The matching eco-table is similar in construction. If gravel isn’t your preference, buy cork furniture that saves the environment while remaining attractive. This modern cork chair seems like a Corbusier, yet really is right for the price.

The designer furnishings pictured above are the best choice as they lie between cardboard furniture and the soil sofa. It may be true that good things arrive in trees.

Furnishings like these translate easily to the outdoor patio or beside the pool. Resistance to weathering makes this collection the right choice for outdoor furniture on any sunny weekend. Perhaps this is what designer furniture is all about-form and function at your request.

All Crumpled Up Over Modern Home Furnishings? Try this Designer Lighting

This designer lighting makes your modern room even more extraordinary with this new table lamp design by one of our favorite artists. The designer has been known to create repurposed home furniture that breaks boundaries between art and traditional home design. It would seem unreal to call delicate item above a lamp, but it does provide adequate and ambient lighting for any bedroom or living room. Oddly, this eco furniture comes straight from Italy. Check out today’s New York Times article about Regenesi in the Home and Garden section. Italian designer furniture is gaining ground in the field of environmentally safe yet modern décor for the contemporary home.

The Designer Table Slides Into Home

The designer table above is forward furniture design at its best. Designer furnishings like this are most seen both in the dining area as well as the living room. Smaller versions are available that function fine as a bed stand in the bedroom.  The cool table design allows the bottom leaf to separate for more reach across the room.  The auxiliary surface then stores under the glass table top, which is ideal after dining with friends or family.  Therefore this design makes a great new kids table when entertaining large groups during televised baseball games.  As a high buffet table, use the latest designer chairs or contemporary bar stools to please everyone.  The latest designer furniture should always be both functional and attractive.

We are always ready for more new furniture styles.  Please contact us online to share furniture design ideas for your ideal designer home.

Designer Furniture for the Most Modern Home

Designer furniture doesn’t need lots of space to be interesting. You well know the ads-the modern leather chair positioned in the center of sprawling converted lofts. A white sofa by contrast can really find an identity in a smaller yet still modern home.

Though corner sofas would be the obvious way to create more space, a decent chair or two will make use of every available foot within your office, dining room, or living area. From windows to mirrors, this Wegner designer chair in particular is able to pull the foreground and the background together without the use of a table. Contemporary lighting and a Pottery Barn area rug compliment with little effort. The pieces shown above illustrate how less is more.

Season’s Greetings: The Summer Coffee Table

Blocks of wood like this designer coffee table need not be restricted to the outdoor patio. We’d guess you could take this rustic table outside, but living room tables like these seem strictly for indoor use. The unique natural design and curved frame would be great for any new home, and likely come preassembled from any designer furniture store or online outlet. You can find this collection in the upcoming catalog every summer.

Room arrangement is also a snap as the low table size and shape eliminate the need for additional end tables. We can also do away with chairs or the nearby sofa, as floor pillows would provide seating for entertainment of multiple guests. Any way you slice it, this table will make any furniture seeker happy.

Outdoor Tables Not Set in Stone

Sometimes we need a break from the traditional outdoor dining table. Wood chairs or teak patio sets are the most popular outdoor furniture going, but worth mentioning are variations of wrought iron furnishings. Take this hollow iron outdoor table. The material may seem set in stone, but this designer furniture is actually quite flexible. You can pair with any chair style, for example, and the center features a fixture for an umbrella. Moreover, tables like this are adjustable in height for use as an indoor coffee table. Try it yourself; your dining room will never be the same.

We know that when it rains, it pours, so be sure to carefully protect all of your outdoor garden furniture. Teak is popular because the wood benches resist weathering, but feel free to foray into other materials for pool or patio. It’s your designer home, so find products that work best for you.

Past Meets Present in Modern Designer Wall Decor

Furniture designers are beginning to explore new avenues in room décor and designer furniture accessories. Traditional décor included bowls and catalogs for the living room table, dining room centerpieces, and pendant or floor lighting. Presently we see design that does not use dimension, rather displays of color and shape frame furnishings already present in the space. The rise of Blick appliqué wall décor opens the door to other varieties of adhesive instant room design. The product above contains a direct example of where this aesthetic is headed. In a departure from mere colorful circles and squares, wall accessories have become more directed and illustrative. This designer quality expressed here, for example, resembles early nineteenth century science diagrams in an age of weights and measures. What better room for this than the kitchen, we suppose?

Maybe the best thing about this easy decoration is easy removal. Also, no storage space is necessary. Feel free to try it out with no risk to your expensive designer furnishings.

Turnaround for Turo Designer Tables

Like the round Turo designer tables of yesteryear, the makers of this designer table have completely changed the rules in the game of designer furniture manufacturing. Welcome to the square version, made of pure mahogany and finished for durability. The surface reaches everyone seated on the sofa, and compliments any popular room in the home. Works great for the patio, too. This dual tiered item has a lot of space under the top and so contains plenty of storage. Be careful, however, you could permanently lose the remote somewhere under there.

So, have at it. Buy the chairs and sofa to make a set. It’s your home; find what works best.

The Long and the Short of It: The Designer Chaise

It’s inevitable-almost everyone at some time has a need for a spectacular designer chaise lounge. Go for it. Find the designer furniture right for your new home. This piece is easy to fit along a wall, or place in the center of the floor. The green hue creates a hint of color within all white modern rooms. It’s comfortable, too; the cushioned seating conforms to body shape. There’s more-use it as a bed for the bedroom, living room sofa, or seek out similar chairs by the same designer.

Maybe one of the best aspects of these furnishings is the ease of handling. Soft and lightweight, the edges will not scratch walls while in transit. Steel casters help the entire piece slide away for easy storage. With all the options, this may be your first piece of designer furniture, but it certainly will not be your last.

Designer Patio Furniture Slims Down for Summer

Why buy bulky designer patio furniture at your department store, when you can find this unique piece for a similar price? Designer furniture should be functional and durable and attractive as well. Take these graceful wood chairs by designer Mike Clough. Outdoor furniture is technically considered “accessories”, but you can think of this set as the centerpiece of your home. The artist has chosen an improvised gondola for protection and shade as you lounge beside your stylish designer table. This shapely slatted furniture is a decent alternative to frightful teak pieces of the past. Just a coat of varnish will keep your set looking new.

The designer offers other high quality custom made products for sale. Check out other home furnishings for the dining room and living area. It’s easy to create your own designer collection today.

Malibu Barbie’s Designer Home

Hooray, Barbie and Ken have moved out of the dollhouse. See the furnishings for their new designer home. Great pink sofa; we’ve always wanted one for every room. Those fabric chairs are also to die for. Pillows here seem to be the main accessories, but that tempered glass table in the center counters the angular furnishings. The storage sideboard and obligatory floor lighting blend okay with the other designer furniture. No doubt there is a home theater stowed away somewhere. It seems this room doubles as a temporary bedroom, and large windows keep the occupants connected to the outdoors. Strange living arrangement.

Yes, this is someone’s unfortunate furniture collection. Where did great products from Italy go wrong? We leave you to ponder the answer.

Chairfare to Denmark: Midcentury Designer Tables

When is designer furniture too good to be true? When it’s a Hans Olsen midcentury designer dining set from Denmark. It’s hard to believe this innovative designer furniture is vintage. Four tri-legged dining chairs meet in the middle and tuck right into the sides of this unique table made for a small dining space. Additionally, we’ve seen tables of this modern design detach with an enclosed leaf to accommodate more chairs for up to six more guests.

Teak wood equips the piece for outdoor use, but we’d welcome this contemporary item in any room of our home. It sits low enough to replace a coffee table or desk, yet remains versatile for the dining room. Definitely better than the reigning Scandinavian fare.

Designer Kitchen Goes Double Duty

For loft spaces without a proper den, we often need a designer kitchen that doubles as a mealtime seating area. The island above passes the true test of designer furniture; form meets function to create an array of modern possibilities. Handy aluminum cabinets under a stove top lend contemporary design to an old world chore. The preparation counter extends as a table for small or large gatherings with additional chairs and tables on the outdoor patio. Bright overhead lighting and wood furnishings keep a natural look throughout the home.

This interior is an original style custom built for this particular room. If you’d like to create a similar theme, contact the furniture designer directly to find home furnishings right for your modern home. If you love this designer home, online retailers offer additional details.

All in a Day’s Work for this Designer Chair

At first glace, it’s tough to see what makes this piece a designer chair. The item is made of wood and looks like a plant stand from the 1970’s. However, the hexagonal shape and use of negative space help make ordinary designer furniture extraordinary. The fact that three different wood sections visibly meet, for example, is an unexpected departure from standard tables or chairs from the past two decades. More elegant and understated designs like this are available direct from the artist.

The versatility here offers a world of options. Use as a chair, stool, side stand, or ottoman for the living room or dining area. The natural wood surface makes this the perfect room furniture for lighting. When you like, it carries away for easy storage.

Help Wanted: Solutions for the Designer Chair

We’re checking back with our good friend, the Eames chair, which has recently snagged an office job. Properly dressed, the traditional plastic bowl form is now covered with fabric for a softer impression. Whether or not this item will rise to the occasion will be seen, as most designer furniture for the office needs to be adjustable for comfortable height at a desk or various tables. Fortunately for the product pictured, the glass furnishings pictured seem to be the right match.

If you have the perfect table, you might wonder what type of chairs to use. Problem solved: the classic yet contemporary Eames is the way to go. Don’t take our word for it; hire an Eames for your own modern home.

A Tree No Longer Grows in Brooklyn

A Norwegian furniture designer has come up with this fantastic designer room set. To create this innovative and exciting approach to designer furniture, she has assembled blocks of over 20 types of wood. Using the off-cuts, she has redefined ecologically friendly furniture, winning many awards for her innovative design. This chair, table, and pendant lighting, for example, are fit together in an unexpected fashion; the completely modern set is made of same material. A wooden lampshade? Why not? The design community will think of solutions for any room.

According to the artist, the main idea behind this product is easy to grasp; she wanted to construct a product using the most basic material available to everyone. The process becomes more complex in its construction, until you have a simple product you couldn’t possibly make at home.

It’s Clear: Acrylic Designer Tables are the Way to Go

Let’s take the mystery out of deciding what type of designer table belongs in a modern living room. We want something that is contemporary but also functional; sometimes wood seems too traditional for a new furniture piece. We also need something appropriate for trendy settings. We’re currently considering acrylic tables like these that act as transparent accent tables as well as catalog racks.

This surface embodies the height of furniture style for the designer home. As mentioned before, the transparent nature of the clear acrylic accent table means it will compliment and blend in with a wide variety of interior design schemes for the office or any domestic room. If you have books and journals you want to showcase, make this accent table yours today.

If I Had A Million Dollars; A Designer Chair that’s Worth it’s Weight

Put away your million dollars folks; the Newson designer lounge chair has just sold at auction for 1.6 million, fees included. Not bad for such a classic style. If you think metal lounges seems questionable, consider that the artist’s design style, known as biomorphism, uses smooth flowing lines and tends to lack angular shapes. Therefore this furniture seems to contrast with the more organic theme of the occupant.

This item is not quite part of a collection but there are others that share a similar shape. The relatively new fabric solid Embryo Chair may be more comfortable, but don’t expect a price break.

Rex Rewrites the Rules of Home Office Furniture

The designer desk set has gone to the dogs with this unique design. Here the two items work together like an Escher drawing; the surface of one piece is a match for seating on the opposite side. The lack of separate tables and chairs makes this modern workstation the height of style for the home office, and allows the set to function almost as a clever work of art.

In our opinion, however, this desk set will need more features to function as an efficient workspace. Proper lighting and adjustable chairs must be included for longer term use. You also could not place these furnishings anywhere close to a wall. It’s ultimately up to you, but this set seems custom made mainly for appearances.

Furniture Fair: Kid’s Rooms Finally Attain Equal Representation

We’re most exited to see the new kid’s room from the upcoming International Contemporary Furniture Fair. New youth designs seem a little underrated, but the market is slowly responding to growing demand. This designer table and chair can stand alone or as part of the full collection, and makes the collection versatile for children of all ages. The wood wall unit is set at the perfect height for style and functionality, available in red or white for the youth bedroom. European clients are currently pleased, and customers from the USA will find these in every store.
It’s up to you to find relevant accessories for this room. Anything from Italy is fine- be sure to select pieces that compliment future pillows and bedding. Consult your local furniture store for designer options.

Mother Nature’s Designer Bedroom

Nature meets nurture with this airy Hayes designer bedroom. Refined indoor furnishings and outdoor views merge using neutral colors and textures. This collection looks simple, but the room includes most of the elements of modern living. Maybe this is just a great picture, but the bed, chair, and cantilever side table seem in complete harmony with the surrounding atmosphere. Neutral bedding and area rug compliment the wood floor while contemporary lighting fixtures on the wall remain available for everyday use.

Maybe it is the case that nearly every item in the room is off the floor, but this set seems light as air. We’d recommend a sliding glass door for this enclosure, shop around to find a curtain for comfort and privacy.

Retro Modern Table, American Style

An American designer table is about function as well as form, and the contemporary item pictured here is ready for double duty. This GINO coffee table is ready made for living room cocktails, complete with space for accessories like a furniture catalog or ambient lighting. If you need a convenient entertainment console, make it a handy TV stand in a flash. The shiny finish compliments a fabric sofa best, and you can finally pull that shag rug out of storage.

This piece could work as a side stand for the dining room, but we think special furnishings belong in the most visited room in general. Consider overseas delivery more pieces for this collection; have retro, will travel.

This luxury Glide Italian leather sectional, for example, lends international flavor and works against the wall or in the center of the room. It’s so convenient; I’d contact the store to see if there are similar pieces available for the bedroom.

Red Rooms for Designer Bedrooms

Though not referring to designer bedrooms, “Red Room” was the best line shouted by little Danny Torrance in one of the best movies of all time. The phrase also applies here in this new designer youth collection for the spring season.  As far as kids bedroom sets apply, the above is built for style and function.

In the photo, a Prince sleigh bed accompanies a miniature night table and nearby lamp for extra convenience.  Wood shelves on the far wall could hold all those books you wish they’d read, or works for family pictures too.  The dresser, while being attractive, contains a cabinet to hold extra toys and games.  The right floor pillows and bedding similarly provide both comfort and support.  Contrasting red and white colors pull this room together, so there’s room to work with seasonal themes and tastes.

A Coffee Table That Works Wonders

Blocks of wood need not be restricted to kitchens in the case of this designer coffee table. I guess you could chop celery or apples here, but tables like these seem strictly for the living room. The unique natural design and steel frame would be great for any new home, and likely come assembled from any contemporary furniture store or online outlet. You can find this collection in the upcoming catalog every summer.

Room arrangement is also a snap as the size and shape eliminate the need for additional end tables. We can do away with chairs or the nearby sofa as floor pillows would provide seating for entertainment of multiple guests. Any way you slice it, this table will make any furniture seeker happy.

A Dining Room to Die For

Woah. Sometimes you find one of those clips on the internet that just blows you away—when I first saw this, my jaw dropped. Talk about my dream home! First of all, to be surrounded by this much natural light in a dining room is pretty unusual to say the least, but to have such amazing views while you eat—that’s true luxury.

This setting might be a “show” house meant to sell you high end furniture but if so, it’s working! I love the interesting wood grain on the simple dining table and bench with the lighting in this space. Notice how it matches the outdoor furniture (the wood bench) ? Genius. The chairs are probably the least interesting part--- they look like cheap molded plastic deals. But they could easily be replaced making this the perfect place to spend long Summer nights dining with friends.

Dining Tables That Wow the Senses

So often we’re scouring the net for the best new furniture products and we come up virtually empty-handed. We’re looking for new dining room furniture, and we either see the same old design classics, or knock-offs of the same, and never anything that really catches our eye.

Well, not today! Here’s an awesome dining table that any one of our loyal readers would love to have in their dining room set. What’s not to like about this great design? The amazing base with its super sleek steel legs is intriguing, both in its apparent lack of symmetry and its geometric shapes. The rounded glass top really accentuate the base’s style by allowing you to see it from all angles. It might cost a bit, but it’s probably our new favorite table out there. See, all this surfing of online furniture stores is worth it after all!

A Sofa Bed You Won’t Hide From Your Friends

We’ve talked a lot about sofas on this blog—designer sectional sofas, outdoor wicker sofas for the Summertime, and all kinds of leather sofas. We’ve skipped over a pretty important sofa topic though and you might be wondering why.
Well, the sofa bed is sort of the red-headed stepchild of the sofa family. After all, it’s neither quite a sofa or a bed in many cases… always failing to pull off the functionality of one or the other in any particularly convincing way. Sofa beds are often better sofas than beds, especially since most comfortable beds today are spring mattresses, which don’t really lend themselves to being folded up. This sofa bed is probably no different—the indifferent metal frame certainly doesn’t suggest that the designer tried to go out of the box on this one. We hope someday someone out there will come up with a practical sofa bed that’s just as good a bed as it is a sofa.

Furniture Designer Jean-Marie Massaud’s Vision of Neo-Bauhaus

Bauhaus is a tremendously important and pervasive influence on all design that followed its 1930’s and 1940’s heyday. In particular it influenced the design of countless skyscrapes and modern corporate culture environments and seemed to want to teach the world to be more practical and functional.

Many modern designers have struggled both to break free from the omnipresence of Bauhaus influence and to find a way to incorporate the best elements of the Bauhaus ethic in modern design work. Jean-Marie Massaud is one designer who seems to accomplished this astonishing feat. Just look at the amazing cabinet in this image, which reminds us a little of Bauhaus’s interesting pattern design (in the circular holes in the panels. The cabinet is obviously multi-functional and seems to be holding sculpture but could as well sit in an office and hold books or other practical things. The chair is an amazing piece as well, which is smooth dip, it looks surprisingly inviting for this space.

Bedroom Sets Both Personal and Practical

Shopping for a bedroom set is a pretty hard thing to do. You have to find a set where you like all the pieces individually and as a set. Frequently you come across a set where you like one or two items, like say the night stands or just the bed, but the rest doesn’t really float your boat.

If this sounds like the kind of problem you have when shopping for furniture, consider making your own designer bedroom set. The set pictured here is obviously a product of this special way of doing things. Admittedly, this set has a slight retro feel to it—the nightstands for example seem to have gilt edges that look kind of French antique in background; the lampshades are a little old-fashioned for our tastes, but you’ve got to admit it’s a pretty bed room set. What we like about it is the injection of someone’s personality into their style. Beyond that, the backboard above the bed, while kind of midcentury, is still a pretty practical item. We’re not sure why backboards like this have lost favor, because it’s a really practical part of a bed set: you lean your head against it when reading or watching TV. Much better than a hard wooden backboard.

Leather Sofas to Add Wow To Your Living Room

Is your living room in need of a little pizzazz? The living room shown above looks like it was. Considering that it looks like a one room condo, with its all white, standard hotel furniture, it’s a wonder that the owner doesn’t replace everything in it.

But they decided to go a different route and buy one piece to accent the room. And boy, does it ever do the job—with its sterling blue presentation, it really draws the eye away from the super boring kitchen cabinetry and coffee table. You have to wonder though if this was the right decision. After all, if it was our designer living room, we’d just have to replace everything else in order to make this sofa stick out in a better way. Right now it’s like an island in a sea of disappointment.

Wall Units for Your Designer Living Room

‘Wall Unit’ might not be the first words out of your mouth when you’re thinking of new furniture items for your designer living room. But don’t discount these handy items when you’re redecorating. They are at the forefront of storage accessories on the market, and today’s modern apartment dweller needs more and more clean and effective storage.

The wall units in this picture I found are a good example of practical and clean design. The open shelves can be for display or items that you use frequently, while the cabinet can ‘hide’ items that aren’t as attractive on constant public display. Or the cabinet can help you make your living room a little more minimal by literally minimizing the number of items out and about. Notice how the wall units closely match the low table, console or side table below it—this is also really important. You need to match your wall units to the rest of the furniture in your living room to make sure it’s totally clean.

Home Theater Living Room To Die For?

Here’s an increasingly popular new living room setup: a home theater-centric design. All the hallmarks of a new style home theater are there—the circular sectional sofa positioned close to the huge plasma screen; the pool table; the wall sconces; and yes, the Rock Band drum set.

How do you feel about this living room set? There’s something a little too bachelor-like about it for us. For one, our living room is not all about television. We like to entertain in our living space and it doesn’t seem like you could do that very well given how close the sofa is to the television. Besides, it might be bad for your eyes! What we’d prefer to see if the sofa placed a little farther from the plasma screen with a nice designer coffee table in front of it. In fact, we’d like to see a different sofa design. I realize it might not be the perfect home theater sofa, but maybe a more rectangular sofa would accentuate this space better.

Italian Furniture That Makes You Laugh

You’ve got to hand it to Italy.  There’s always coming up with some of the wackiest furniture designs.  It seems like every day someone emails me some crazy thing they saw and sure enough, it’s another Italian designer.

This piece is no exception.  It’s a sofa alright, maybe a futon given the long sitting surface, but there’s something funny about it the more you look at it.  Yes, somehow it looks like a tongue.  You can almost imagine this sofa in Keith Richards’ living room, except maybe it would be a leather sectional instead.  Still, it’s a cool piece and was probably a really hard one to design and produce.  Maybe we’ll be seeing it in a boutique hotel for rock’n’rollers someday soon!

Leather Sofas - Plush or Firm?

When you're selecting a sofa for your living room, there's a lot of factors to consider.  Do you want a sectional sofa or a loveseat?  Do you want a fabric sofa or a leather sofa?  Do you want a black sofa or a red sofa?

Perhaps the best starting point in choosing a sofa is determining how you're going to use it.  After all, picking a good piece of designer furniture often comes down to the practicality of that furniture for a particular space or use.  If you're looking for a sofa to watch hours of TV on, it's obviously important that it be very comfortable.  If it's a entry-way sofa in your office, the looks might be more important than comfort.

But we're all about comfort, so the sofa pictured above isn't going to work for us.  Surprised? Well you might be shocked to learn that plush cushions don't always translate to a comfortable sitting.  In fact, firm cushions offer more back support and therefore are more comfortable for most people.
