Furniture Designer Jean-Marie Massaud’s Vision of Neo-Bauhaus

Bauhaus is a tremendously important and pervasive influence on all design that followed its 1930’s and 1940’s heyday. In particular it influenced the design of countless skyscrapes and modern corporate culture environments and seemed to want to teach the world to be more practical and functional.

Many modern designers have struggled both to break free from the omnipresence of Bauhaus influence and to find a way to incorporate the best elements of the Bauhaus ethic in modern design work. Jean-Marie Massaud is one designer who seems to accomplished this astonishing feat. Just look at the amazing cabinet in this image, which reminds us a little of Bauhaus’s interesting pattern design (in the circular holes in the panels. The cabinet is obviously multi-functional and seems to be holding sculpture but could as well sit in an office and hold books or other practical things. The chair is an amazing piece as well, which is smooth dip, it looks surprisingly inviting for this space.
